There’s simply no cooler clothing option than a Baja Hoodie. Also known as drug rugs, you’ll see these dope hoodies pop up anywhere and everywhere. From music festivals to college campuses, skateparks to your local beach. There’s a peculiar vibe that Baja Hoodies and their wearers give off and that feeling is just unbeatable.
Baja Hoodies first entered my personal lexicon when I was travelling in Mexico. I found myself in a small mountain village in the middle of the state of Oaxaca called San Jose Del Pacifico. The village earns its title as from the highest point (some 3000 meters + of elevation) you can actually see the Pacific ocean. How sick is that!?
The village sits at a whopping 2327 meters above sea level. To put that into perspective, most European ski resorts don’t have a treeline above 2000 meters so basically any higher than that in Europe and you’re in the rocky alpine. Naturally, it gets pretty cold up there.
San Jose Del Pacifico is famous for a very distinct reason. There is a certain mushroom of the magical variety that grows up there and the local indigenous community have been using these shrooms for generations as a medicine. With growth in tourism, San Jose Del Pacifico has taken on a psychedelic ambience of its own and the entire village is decorated in colourful mushroom style artwork.
I found myself ill prepared for the cold of this beautiful village so I headed to the market to try and find something warmer to wear. And what I found was a beautiful red and blue Baja Hoodie. I was delighted with the vibrant colours and warm soft feel of my new Baja Hoodie especially since I was planning a voyage to the dark side of the moon.
One day I will share all the things I learned on this trip but to keep it short and simple I experienced a love for nature that was more strong and powerful than anything I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime. Maybe it was because I was wearing a Baja Hoodie.
Years later I sold that very Baja Hoodie to a dude I met in a pub in Highgate London on a Saturday night out with same mates. I’m sure it will serve him well but maybe that’s a story for another time.
At madeinmexi.co we like to mix the old with the new. Accordingly, we offer several different styles and colours of Baja Hoodies so everyone will find something that works for them.
The more traditional Baja Hoodie styles we offer are the originaland original 2.0 Baja Hoodies. These feature the common and standard weave pattern that you’ll find on the same Baja Hoodies from the 60s and 70s.
However we also offer two more modern styles; the texture pattern and zig zag Baja Hoodies. These hoodies feature a more modern take on this retro classic hoodie.
All our hoodies have a standardised fit so sizes small, medium, large and X-large are exactly the same across our entire range. This should make it a lot easier for you when you return to buy your next Baja Hoodie. I’m almost completely and entirely certain that you’ll be back for more!
We have this awesome size chart that will help you select the right size Baja Hoodie. Personally I like to wear my Baja Hoodies quite baggy and loose but of course that comes down to personal preference. We find that the hoodies are a little oversize so if you find yourself in between sizes we strongly recommend you choose a size down.
